Day by Day
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi and head to Umbwe Park Gate, where our adventure begins. Following a small winding path through the rainforest and alongside the Umbwe River, you'll immerse yourself in the natural surroundings.
Our destination for the night is Umbwe Cave Camp, located at an altitude of about 2,900m. Here, you'll settle in, enjoying the tranquil setting and preparing for the trek ahead in the following days.

You'll depart from the camp and observe the changing landscape as we depart from the forested area. The sheer wall of the Western Breach will make intermittent appearances and disappearances as afternoon mists roll up the Great Barranco.
The day's journey concludes at Barranco Camp, where you'll camp amidst awe-inspiring surroundings.

You'll start the day with a short yet exhilarating scramble to the summit of the Great Barranco Wall, adding a touch of adventure to the trek. Traverse over scree terrain, making your way to the Karanga Valley (3930m) situated beneath the icefalls of the Heim, Kersten, and Decken Glaciers.
Settle in for the night at the Karanga Campsite, where you’ll rest and rejuvenate amidst the spectacular surroundings, reflecting on the day’s experiences and preparing for your onward journey.

Today you’ll bid farewell to Karanga Campsite and head towards the junction connecting with the Mweka Descent Trail. Press onward and upward to reach Barafu Hut, marking the completion of the Southern Circuit. Barafu Hut offers varied angles for stunning views of the summit and provides a memorable sight of the two peaks, Mawenzi and Kibo, which are clearly visible from this vantage point.
At the camp you’ll take a well-deserved rest, savor a hearty dinner, and make preparations for the upcoming summit day.

You will wake up at 11:30pm for tea and biscuits before embarking on the trek to the summit between the Rebman and Ratzel glaciers. Head northwest, ascending through challenging scree to Stella Point for a brief rest and a magnificent sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point on Kilimanjaro. Descend to Mweka Hut via Barafu for lunch, then trek down to Mweka Camp (3100m) using trekking poles. Enjoy a final dinner and rest after reaching the summit.

Following breakfast, you will proceed with the descent to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates.
Be prepared for potentially wet and muddy conditions at lower elevations. Gaiters and trekking poles can be beneficial.
Light clothing like shorts and t-shirts should suffice but keep rain gear and warmer clothing readily accessible.
